A free Sharesight alternative, with room for twice as many holdings on the free plan.
Olnest’s free plan holds twice as many holdings as Sharesight’s, and a holding you have sold stops counting. It never links to your broker, and every trade it reads from an email waits for you to check it. Sharesight does more than Olnest in several places, and for some people it is the better choice. Here is where each one is stronger.

When Sharesight is the better choice
You need tax reports. Sharesight’s paid plans produce tax reports: a taxable income report on most of them, and in Australia capital gains tax reports from its Standard plan up, or through its separate Tax Pack. Olnest has no tax reports at all.
You want dividends and corporate actions handled for you. Sharesight records them automatically on every plan. Olnest does not.
An accountant or adviser needs access. Sharesight lets you share a portfolio at three access levels, even on its free plan. Olnest has no sharing.
You hold something unusual. Sharesight says it covers over 60 exchanges and fund sources, by its own count. Olnest does not publish a count.
When Olnest is the better free alternative
You never want a tracker connected to your broker. Olnest has no broker connections, so it never asks for a broker login. Nothing in it comes from your broker’s systems: you type it, upload a file, or forward an email. How tracking without linking works.
You want to check every trade before it counts. Each trade read from a forwarded email waits until you confirm it, and shows you the trade date it read before it goes in. If the email gives no date, it asks you for one.
You want more room on the free plan. The free plan holds twice as many holdings as Sharesight’s, and a holding you have sold stops counting.
What the paid plans add
The paid plans are not like for like, so comparing their prices directly would mislead. Sharesight’s paid plans raise the holding limit (30 on its cheapest paid plan, unlimited from Standard up), add more portfolios, and add reports, including tax reports on most of them. Olnest Plus ($14/mo) adds the screener, Benchmark, newsletters and Rooms, and Pro ($39/mo) adds Deep Dives and a larger AI allowance. Signing up for Olnest is free, and all four ways of adding holdings are on the free plan.
Each Olnest plan also covers the startups you back, as one subscription. The free plan lets you browse approved startups and ask for one introduction to a founder a month. Plus adds startup alerts and a startup portfolio, Pro adds side-by-side comparison and reports, and Angel ($79/mo) adds the most introductions, on top of everything in Pro.
